During Stoptober, approximately 50,000 people attempted to quit smoking. Not only is quitting good for your health, it also saves a lot of money. What many people don’t know is that life insurance is lower if you don’t smoke. Algemeen Dagblad reports this.

If you quit smoking and let your insurer know that you have quit, you can save 320 euros per year on your life insurance. Ex-smokers live longer on average than smokers and therefore pay a lower premium. This lower premium will start two years after the moment of discontinuation. 70 percent of ex-smokers do not know that this is possible and therefore they do not inform their insurer. This means that they continue to pay too high a premium.
Last week, the new ‘Pure’ campaign was launched to encourage smokers to quit. Since the beginning of this year, help with quitting has been reimbursed by the health insurer.
