One drink of these fruits has been shown to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease by controlling high blood pressure and blood vessel function.

This drink is derived from blueberries which have been shown to have many health benefits. According to one study by the Journal of Gerontology, Series A: Biological Sciences and Medical Sciences, these fruits may also improve blood vessel health.

Researchers found that consuming just 200 grams of blueberries could help lower systolic blood pressure and improve blood vessel health.

They studied these health effects after offering 40 men a blueberry drink every day for a month. Meanwhile, the other participants received a controlled drink for comparison.

All participants’ blood pressure was measured periodically and underwent a test measuring flow-mediated dilation of the brachial artery in the upper arm.

These findings found that blueberry drinks can help lower high blood pressure by about 2 percent within 2 hours and the effects can last after 1 month of consuming them every day.

In addition, systolic blood pressure also decreased by an average of 5 millimeters of mercury. Systolic pressure is one of the two components used to measure blood pressure.

The researchers put the effect on blueberries’ high levels of anthocyanins, which are unique antioxidants found in berries. These molecules are what affect the color of the berry.

Research also shows that anthocyanins improve endothelial cell function in the body. These cells are found on the inner surface of blood vessels which are important for blood flow and regulating blood pressure.

The research team said this process could help prevent the development of hypertension. The study’s lead author, doctor Ana Rodriguez-Mateos, from the Department of Nutritional Science at King’s College London, said eating blueberries in their entirety could provide the full health benefits.
