Lower Blood Sugar Levels in 30 Minutes, Try This Drink!

Suara.com – Type 2 diabetes is a condition that can lead to dangerous complications if blood sugar levels uncontrolled height.

However, dietary changes could be key to helping control blood sugar levels in people with type 2 diabetes.

The foods that can help control type 2 diabetes are foods with a low glycemic index (GI), because they have little impact on blood sugar levels.

The GI is a scoring system for foods that contain carbohydrates. The GI level of a food shows how quickly each food affects your blood sugar (glucose) levels when you eat it.

In a study published in the journal BMC Research Notes quoted from Express, calamansi juice or Orange juice kalamansi shown to have a low GI index.

The researchers also observed a decrease in blood sugar levels in people with type 2 diabetes just 30 minutes after taking it.

Calamansi orange juice is a refreshing drink and contains a lot of water whose fruit at first glance looks like a lime.

A study on this was conducted by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the World Health Organization (WHO) between January and May 2018 in the teaching laboratory of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Universiti Malaysia Sarawak.

The study involved men ages 18 to 19 who were advised not to drink alcohol and sleep for at least 6 to 8 hours, and fast for 8 to 10 hours before being tested.

A total of 4 tests were carried out including, a glucose test using 3 sugary drinks and 1 test using calamansi orange juice. All tests were performed within 1 to 2 weeks after the previous test.

Each test lasts two hours. Then, researchers will measure their blood glucose within 30 minutes after consuming a sugary drink.

Then, the researchers will test their urine and blood every 30 minutes to 2 hour intervals. The same procedure was also carried out after the participants drank kalamansi orange juice.

Post-prandial (after eating) blood glucose at 30 minutes after consumption of sugar-sweetened beverages or calamansi orange juice showed that blood glucose increased by 9 mmol/L in people who consumed sugar-sweetened beverages and 7.9 mmol/L in people who drank kalamansi orange juice.

The findings of this study also showed that the increase in blood sugar was seen more slowly in people after drinking calamansia orange juice, compared to people who consumed sugary drinks.

In this case, drinking calamansi orange juice has low potential to increase blood glucose levels. In addition, other low-GI foods, including fruit and vegetables, as well as whole-grain foods.

“Some low GI foods, such as whole grain foods, fruit, vegetables, beans and lentils are foods we should eat as part of a healthy and balanced diet,” the NHS says.
