The coronavirus in China was reflected in a 60-cent drop in the price of gasoline in Ciudad Juarez during this week.

Hundreds of companies in the Asian country are paralyzed by the disease that has infected thousands, which has caused a drop in the demand for oil as it is the largest consumer of crude oil worldwide.

According to the prices reported by the stores before the Energy Regulatory Commission (CRE), yesterday the liter of Magna gasoline was sold at up to 12.69 pesos, its lowest level since January 2018.

On Monday, February 3, the cheapest ‘green’ fuel was at 13.29 pesos, accumulating a loss of 60 cents only in six days.

Meanwhile, the maximum price went from 13.99 pesos earlier this week to 13.65 yesterday, 34 cents less.

While in El Paso the cheapest gallon of Regular gasoline (equivalent to Magna) was sold yesterday at $ 1.86 against Monday’s 1.99.

With an exchange rate of 18.50 pesos, as the dollar traded yesterday in exchange centers, a liter of gasoline on the other side of the border costs 9 pesos, 3.69 cheaper than in Juarez.

Some stores in the central area of El Paso offered the gallon at 2.48 dollars, that is, 12.13 pesos per liter.

Earlier this year, the Magna liter reached a maximum of 14.39 pesos, accumulating a drop of one peso so far this year.

Fernando Carbajal Flores, president of Onexpo, recalled that the gasoline sold in Juarez is imported directly from El Paso, where there has also been a drop in prices.

According to the Investing.com financial site, oil prices linked five consecutive weeks of falls on Friday and fell by a fifth of the value with which they closed 2019, due to fears of a decrease in demand for the new coronavirus outbreak in China, the largest consumer of crude oil worldwide.

WTI oil futures were sold yesterday at $ 50.36 a barrel against 65.29 on January 7 of this year.
