In order to achieve these goals, the President of the LOC, George Tikmer, has instructed the Latvian Olympic Social Fund (LOSF) to calculate the necessary funds to increase benefits from 2021, as well as to organize procurement for health insurance.
“Health insurance will allow sports veterans to improve their health care on a daily basis, as professional sports and the years spent in them have had an impact on health. The joint task of the LOK and the Ministry of Education and Science is to ensure this, ”says Georges Tikmer, President of the LOK.
In 2020, benefits were increased by reducing LOSF administrative costs and reviewing organizational expenses.

The Latvian Olympic Social Fund started its operation as a structural unit of the Latvian Olympic Committee in 1990, but was established in 1996 as an open public fund. Benefits are currently paid to 170 sports veterans. LOSF board is headed by two-time Olympic champion Uljana Semjonova.
