news-text">

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili called Ukrainian politicians who supported the protests in Tbilisi “losers” and advised them to “look after their country.” He said it on national television, reports Echo of the Caucasus.

Garibashvili believes that if “a person who is fighting finds time to comment on a destructive action involving several thousand people in Georgia, this is direct evidence that this person is involved and wants something to happen here, to change.”

The Prime Minister of Georgia mentioned Vitali Klitschko and David Arakhamia and said that “some incomprehensible people, some losers who said that we need changes and a change of government.”

“Look after your country, and we will look after ours,” Garibashvili said.

On March 7, the Georgian parliament in the first reading supported a bill similar to the Russian one on “foreign agents.” Protests began outside the parliament. Security forces used tear gas and a water cannon against the protesters. The protesters demolished the fence and tried to storm the parliament, the security forces began to disperse the rally and detain the protesters.

On March 9, the Georgian Dream party withdrew the draft law on “foreign agents” from the Venice Commission, and on March 10 it failed in the parliamentary vote.

  • On January 19, 2023, the Foreign Ministry stated that Tbilisi and Moscow were “exchanging curtseys” against the background of the fact that Russia continues to occupy part of not only Ukrainian, but also Georgian territory, and in such a situation, pro-Russian rhetoric from Georgia is “political meanness.”
  • March 8 President Vladimir Zelensky thanked those who held Ukrainian flags during the protests in Georgia. “I want to thank you for our national anthem, which was played in Tbilisi. This is respect for Ukraine, and I want to express sincere respect for Georgia. There is no Ukrainian who did not want the success of our friendly Georgia. Democratic success. European success,” Zelensky said.
