Too many calories, too much fat – and therefore not good for the figure. The reputation of milk isn’t necessarily the best. But that’s a fallacy! Those who want to lose weight should treat themselves to two glasses of (whole) milk a day – despite the around 65 calories per 100 ml. Because who would have thought: Milk can actually help you lose weight.
4 reasons why milk can help you lose weight
1. Calcium is a real fat killer
Milk is healthy for the bones. Every child knows that. The reason is the calcium it contains. But calcium can do even more – it is a real fat killer. Those who consume a lot of calcium during a diet inhibit the growth of fat cells, accelerate weight loss and fat loss. The more calcium there is in a fat cell, the more actively it burns fat, according to American researcher Michael Zemel from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, who conducted a study in humans and mice at the Nutrition Institute.
If you do not meet your daily calcium requirements, you can have serious problems losing weight. The daily requirement of an adult is 900 milligrams – women in the menopause should even increase the amount to 1300 milligrams a day.
To achieve this goal, you can – of course – drink milk or use other milk products. Quark, yogurt, kefir and even cheese are full of calcium. Vegans can also consume soy milk.
2. Vitamin D heats up
In addition to calcium, milk also contains a lot of vitamin D – the two form a great partnership. Both substances together heat up the fat metabolism and stabilize the blood sugar level, according to an Israeli study in which 300 overweight men and women aged 40 to 65 participated, who could then lose weight with milk.
Some of the subjects consumed 180 milliliters of milk a day, the other not. After half a year, the certainty was that, in contrast to the milk defectors, milk drinkers had a higher vitamin D value in their blood and were also able to record a weight loss of five to six kilos. Milk thus helped you lose weight. Do you want even more vitamin D? There is a lot in these foods.
3. Protein saturates for a long time
Protein is healthy and has a satiating effect. If you drink a glass of milk for breakfast instead of juice, you will be full for a long time after the first meal of the day. Even so long that you eat less for lunch.
Protein also protects the muscles – where the fat is burned. If you protect your muscles with the protein contained in milk, you also have more muscle mass – and that burns fat even when at rest.
4. No cravings – thanks to the low Glyx index
If you want to lose weight, you should use foods that have a low glycemic index. The so-called Glyx Index is a criterion for classifying carbohydrates in their effects on the body and blood sugar levels. The higher the index, the higher the blood sugar level and cravings.
Milk has a very low glycemic index and therefore ensures a constant insulin level. Food cravings don’t stand a chance – ideal for a diet. You can see other drinks that will help you lose weight in the video:
