Lorena R7 – Samsung negotiates with Tesla the manufacture of next-generation chips

Samsung Electronics, a South Korean multinational, intends to produce next-generation chips for the 100% autonomous driving announced by electric car maker Tesla. The two companies have been talking since the beginning of the year about the automaker’s project, according to information released yesterday (23) by the newspaper “Korea Economic Daily”. Tesla’s goal is to launch its Cybertruck in 2022 already with this technology.

It is important to mention that the car manufacturer had previously announced that it would drive cars completely autonomously in 2016, but it was not successful in the endeavor in partnership with Nvidia.

Today, however, Tesla believes that its FSD (Full Self-Driving Computer), powered by a chip formatted by it and developed by Samsung, is fully capable of allowing 100% autonomous driving. Elon Musk, CEO of the company, says he is confident that Hardware 3, or the Full Self-Driving computer 1 will be able to drive cars better and safer than humans. “I don’t know, probably 200 or 300% better than humans”, Quote or Electrek channel.

One of the sources of the aforementioned Korean newspaper comments that the negotiation between the companies is practically closed, as Tesla recently decided to produce the HW 4.0 chip with Samsung.

The partnership with the South Korean company, leader in chip manufacturing in the world, took place after factors such as production costs, possibility of long-term cooperation and availability of technology were taken into account.

Tesla plans to launch its Cybertruck electric pickup by the end of 2022 and has already received orders for more than one million units. The wish is that it already comes equipped with the HW 4.0.

Samsung Electronics plans to mass-produce the Tesla HW 4.0 chip at its main plant in Hwasung, South Korea, using seven-nanometer processing technology in the final quarter of this year.”, quotes the publication.
