Longwy Edition | Homicide attempt: suspect arrested on the A31

It all starts with speeding, in Hauconcourt, in Moselle, Friday 1er may. Around 3:30 p.m., a resident of Mont-Saint-Martin was arrested by the CRS of Moulins-lès-Metz for not having respected the speed limits on the A31. A fairly trivial affair, until then … except that several seers then light up in the minds of the Moselle police.

Already, the 32-year-old offender no longer has his driver’s license. Most importantly, he is wanted in a homicide attempt that occurred seven months earlier in his hometown.

Two bullets in the rear

Return to the night of September 27 to 28, 2019. At around 2:00 a.m., the Mont-Saint-Martin night brigade was called to the local hospital for a man injured by gunshots. A Saint-Martinois, 37 years old, received two projectiles in the posterior. According to family members, the victim was in the Val neighborhood, in a car, when he was shot in the handgun. An investigation into attempted homicide has been opened. The alleged gunman is identified and then entered into the wanted file. He therefore reappeared this Friday.

After his arrest on the A31, the respondent was first placed in police custody in Moulins-lès-Metz, then in Mont-Saint-Martin in the evening. On Sunday, the 32-year-old was finally brought into the criminal court of the Nancy prosecution. All along, he is said to have denied his involvement in the September 2019 homicide attempt.

While the investigations are continuing, the courts have chosen to place him in pre-trial detention at the Metz-Queuleu prison. And not in Maxéville, where the victim of the September events is imprisoned!

Victim in pre-trial detention for … attempted homicide

To understand why, we must come back to another attempted homicide that occurred in Mont-Saint-Martin, that one on the night of February 18 to 19, 2020. At around 3:15 a.m., a man had fired half a dozen of times on a couple in the car. The targets of this attack had formally identified … a 37-year-old Saint-Martinois. Suspect and wanted in turn, the victim of the September shootings has since been arrested. Did she think she recognized her attacker? Would she have opened fire to take revenge for her injuries? For the moment, the questions of the investigators of the urban security brigade of Mont-Saint-Martin and the judicial police of Nancy remain more numerous than the answers. Especially since the 37-year-old man denies the charges against him.
