Britain continues to call on Russia to de-escalate

The Kremlin intends to create in Ukraine a government loyal to the Russian Federation under the leadership of one of the Ukrainian ex-deputies of the Rada, the British Foreign Ministry found out.

In the event of a “seizure” of Ukraine, the Russian authorities are preparing to create a new government in Kiev, which could be headed by a former deputy of the Verkhovna Rada, Yevgeny Muraev. This is stated in press release British Foreign Office, published on the evening of Saturday, January 22.

“We have information that indicates that the Russian government intends to imprison a pro-Russian leader in Kiev, while at the same time considering whether to invade and occupy Ukraine. Former Ukrainian MP Evgeny Muraev is being considered as a possible candidate,” says in the statement.

The department also named the names of four former Ukrainian politicians with whom the Russian special services are in touch. London stressed that some of the named individuals “are involved in planning an attack on Ukraine”:

  • Sergiy Arbuzov, First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine in 2012-2014, Acting Prime Minister in 2014;

  • Andriy Klyuev, First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine in 2010-2012 and head of the administration of former President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych;

  • Volodymyr Sivkovich, former deputy secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine;

  • Mykola Azarov, Prime Minister of Ukraine in 2010-2014.

“The information released today sheds light on the scope of Russian activities aimed at undermining Ukraine and gives a glimpse of what the Kremlin is thinking,” British Foreign Secretary Liz Truss said and again urged Moscow to make efforts to de-escalate.

At the same time, the minister recalled that London’s position on Ukraine remains unchanged: “Britain unconditionally supports its (Ukraine – ed.) sovereignty and territorial integrity within internationally recognized borders, including Crimea. Ukraine is an independent and sovereign state.”

The Russian Foreign Ministry has already reacted to London’s statement, calling it “provocative” and “misinforming.”

Evgeny Muraev is a Ukrainian politician, deputy of the Kharkiv Regional Council of two convocations, People’s Deputy of Ukraine of the VII and VIII convocations. Former head of the political council of the For Life party, later – head of the Our Party. Owner of NASH TV channel.

Note that the British authorities continue to provide military assistance to Ukraine against the background of the risk of Russian invasion. So, after the delivery of two thousand units of anti-tank weapons, elite fighters – instructors, who will teach our military to use new equipment, went to Ukraine.
