Locarno Film Festival 2022 – Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

That 75. Locarno Film Festival (Locarno75) took place from August 3rd to 13th, 2022. For the second time it was under the artistic direction of Giona A. Nazzaro. A total of 226 films were shown in 471 screenings in the anniversary program. The main venue was a large screen on the Piazza Grande in Locarno’s old town, which was designed as an open-air event. The festival program was also shown in the city’s cinemas.[1] More than two years after the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, the festival returned to its normal schedule of events with audience screenings and unrestricted access.[2]

The film festival was opened with the US action comedy Bullet Train. The Swiss-German documentary film concluded the event All about Martin Suter by André Schäfer. With the Golden Leopard, the main prize in the international competition (International competition) became the Brazilian-French feature film Rule 34 von Júlia Murat preisgekrönt.[1]

This year’s retrospective was dedicated to Douglas Sirk.[1] The Greek-French filmmaker Costa-Gavras received honorary awards (Leopard to career Ascona-Locarno) and American actor Matt Dillon (Lifetime Achievement Award) excellent.[3][4]

International competition for the Golden Leopard[Bearbeiten | Quelltext bearbeiten]

A total of 17 film productions entered the international competition (International competition) invited. The section presents world premieres and international premieres of feature, documentary or animated films longer than 60 minutes. It serves as a showcase for contemporary auteur cinema and contains works by up-and-coming directors as well as works by established filmmakers.[5]
