LMT will install 100 5G base stations this year

mobile operator and technology innovation company LMT plans to install one hundred 5G base stations throughout Latvia by the end of 2021, Skaties.lv informed the company.

As a result, 5G capabilities will be available to an ever-widening range of individuals and businesses.

“With the rapid growth of data consumption, the quality of the network increasingly affects the provision of public functions and the ability of entire sectors of the economy to survive. Therefore, a comprehensive, powerful 5G data transmission network, which opens up new possibilities for the daily use of artificial intelligence, Internet of Things (IoT), drones and other solutions, is one of the key preconditions for the long-term development of our country and society. We have been working purposefully for several years to make 5G available to solution developers in Latvia, and now the time has come when a much wider range of customers will be able to use the opportunities provided by 5G, ”points out LMT President Juris Binde.

Currently, several dozen 5G base stations have already been installed in Riga, Kuldiga, Ventspils, Ogre, Ikšķile, Sigulda, Skriveri, as well as in many other Latvian cities and settlements. In appropriate locations with adequate 5G network coverage and capacity, customers in their homes and offices will be able to take full advantage of the network using a 5G router.

It has already been reported that LMT together with the technology company “MikroTik” has created a 5G router. The first LMT customers – residents of Ādaži – started using 5G Internet and the latest generation routers at home already in the spring of this year.
