Pauline Ferrand-Prévot has succeeded herself as cross-country world champion. The Frenchwoman already drove away from her competitors in the first lap and left no doubt about who was the best in Austria. She won with 3’01 “ahead of numbers two and three. The battle for places two and three was a real thriller.
Three riders fought for two places. Rebecca McConnell (Australia) drove 4 of the 5 laps alone in second position. Behind her, Eva Lechner (Italy) and Sina Frei (Switzerland) fought for third place for a long time, but in the penultimate round the Italian left the Swiss Frei and went in search of McConnell alone.
At the start of the final lap, the difference between McConnell and Lechner was almost closed. A particularly exciting duel for silver followed, which was only won by Lechner at the finish line in the sprint.
