Liverpool may not need to play Championship game on neutral ground NOW

Liverpool will not have to play the possible championship duel with fellow townsman Everton on neutral ground on 21 June. The local authorities gave both clubs the green light on Wednesday to finish the remaining home games in their own stadium.

The English police feared that supporters of Liverpool would cause chaos if the potential championship game was played at Goodison Park. However, the city council does not consider it necessary to look for a new location.

“We are pleased to announce that all remaining Everton and Liverpool games can be played responsibly in their own stadiums. Both Goodison Park and Anfield meet all safety requirements,” said Security Councilor Wendy Simon on Wednesday.

“We have taken into account all kinds of factors and put the safety of players, staff and referees first. This way it is possible to finish the matches without any problems.”

Strict security requirements will apply to all Premier League matches. The duels take place behind closed doors.

Liverpool can hardly miss the title

Liverpool can hardly miss the first title since 1990. The team of manager Jürgen Klopp, who only lost once in the league this season, is in the lead with no less than 25 points ahead of number two Manchester City, which still has one match to spare.

The Premier League decided after consultation with the clubs last month that the competition will continue on 17 June with the make-up matches Manchester City-Arsenal and Aston Villa-Sheffield United. There are then nine more rounds on the program.
