Liverpool have Wolverhampton and are making further progress

Ten points. It was the gap between Liverpool, a solid leader of this Premier League, and its dolphin Leicester before the match of the day. For the 20th lifting of the English championship, the Reds received Wolverhampton, who fell from Manchester City Friday night (3-2), at Anfield Road. Even if the Wolves were in seventh place, they should not be taken lightly. The mission of the European champions was therefore simple: to win again to take a step further at the top of the championship, while Manchester City (3rd) will challenge Sheffield United in the evening. For this meeting at home, Jürgen Klopp aligned a 4-4-2 with the duo Salah-Firmino in front, as well as Lallana and Mané on the sides. Nuno Espírito Santo also went out 3-5-2 and left Spaniard Traore on the bench.

Jürgen Klopp’s Reds quickly put pace and impact on the Wolves. After four minutes of play, Salah got the first chance but it was above. Jostled from the start, visitors found some colors afterwards but the opportunities were always red. Van Dijk launched Mané who put his head back on the Egyptian. The number 11 continued with a good strike but this time, Rui Patricio was on the trajectory (21st). It was therefore difficult to see how the Wolves could respond and the Reds did their best to try to open the scoring. But Mané (30th) and Firmino (31st), each time of the head, did not find the way of the nets. But before the break, Liverpool finally took the advantage.

20 league matches, zero losses

On a magnificent opening from Van Dijk, Lallana served Mané in the first line of the shoulder. The Senegalese international finished the work at close range. After validation of the VAR, Mr. Taylor could then designate the central circle to validate in turn this goal (44th, 1-0). However, this advantage was short-lived. In the right hallway, Jonny centered strongly and the ball arrived on Neto which adjusted Alisson. The Wolves celebrated this goal but it was refused for an offside of a few millimeters (45th + 5). The locals were therefore ahead at the break (1-0) but after returning from the locker room, the Wolves showed better things. By pushing, visitors created opportunities. Well served by Jonny, Jota crossed his shot a little too much as it streaked near Alisson’s goal (57th). Suddenly, Nuno Espírito Santo acted and launched Traoré in place of Dendoncker, while Saïss replaced Neves (58th).

Rather interesting tonight, the Portuguese Jota was getting a new opportunity in a tight corner, but Alisson deflected his powerful strike (67th). Seeing his team suffering, Jürgen Klopp then began to bring new blood while his Portuguese counterpart made his last change. Just entered the game, Jimenez distinguished himself with a shot but Gomez deflected (83rd). The German coach then continued his turnover with the appearances of Milner and Origi (86th) and his players maintained this lead by a small goal since Saïss (89th) and Vinagre (90th + 2) did not hang the frame. In front of their home crowd, Liverpool therefore ended the year on a high note by winning on the smallest of margins (1-0). The Reds were 13 points ahead of Leicester, while the Wolves slipped to eighth.
