Live the adventure outside your home: instructions for use

On foot, by kayak, by bike … Alone or with others. Under tent or in a gîte. There is no rule or recipe. The goal is precisely to be creative and autonomous , emphasizes Amélie Deloffre. Interview.

We often travel in search of a change of scenery. Can we find it without going far?

Yes of course ! We have associated the change of scenery with coconut trees so much that we even forgot to look at what we had at home. Of course, when you travel far, you discover a language, a cuisine. But our country, however small, conceals an incredible diversity of landscapes and cultures that give us experiences that have nothing to do with each other. When you think about it, in an organized trip abroad, you go through planned visits. We change our eyes, but we remain very spectators. In our seated, comfortable and planned lives, the change of scenery also comes from the unusual: climbing a hill on a bicycle, cooking outside, feeling the wind on your face. It gives as much pleasure as traveling far away, because it is dense and extraordinary.

How to go on an adventure near home?

By embarking on the micro-adventure. We leave for a short itinerant stay of two to four days in his region or country. On foot, by bike, by canoe, by van, by moped. Alone or with others. We sleep in a tent or in a lodge. There is no rule or recipe. The goal is precisely to be creative and autonomous. It can be a hike on the slopes of the Seine, a cycling trip in the Jura to swim in the lakes, a wine route to bring back bottles in your bags, a tour of a Breton island by kayak, a random walk where, at each crossing, a participant chooses whether to go to the right or to the left. We find pretexts, we walk at will, we have fun!

Why are these local trips so enjoyable?

From an ecological point of view, they weigh less on the planet than mass tourism. They are not expensive. And they make us grow so much! I was shy and anxious, I realized that I was able to climb passes, pitch my tent, hitchhike, always find a solution. These trips open up to others, give confidence in oneself and in life. We spend time fantasizing in front of films and adventurers’ tales. But the adventure, everyone can live it! During these escapades, I like to disconnect and slow down my brain. I feel like I’m living harder, I don’t want to consume, I’m right, in the present, everything is simpler. And then nature, the unforeseen, the meetings, a giggle, the pasta in the stove, all that makes you deeply happy. We leave a secure and standardized life to experience many more emotions and physical sensations.

Does it take a lot of effort?

The micro-adventure is for everyone: women, men, families. Anyone can put on hiking boots and walk. You just have to choose an adventure at your level or according to the effort you are ready to provide. Physical effort is part of the experience, it’s true. Adventure and comfort are mutually exclusive. And as with any new activity, we can be afraid, doubt. But it is precisely by doing that that we unlock our fear. It works every time! In the action, we realize that we know how to manage and that we are having an unforgettable moment.
