LIVE | RIVM: decrease in corona cases stagnates, reproduction rate increases | Inland

The number of corona cases is still falling, but the decline is stagnating. The National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) warns against this. That got 36,931 reports of positive corona tests in the past week, about the same number as the week before. Then the institute reported that it had received 37,706 reports of positive corona tests in seven days.

The so-called reproduction number rose slightly and was just above 1. The figure now stands at 1.02, against 0.89 last week. It is an estimate, according to the RIVM it is somewhere between 0.99 and 1.05. The number indicates how quickly the virus spreads among the population. If it is above 1, the virus can spread faster and faster. The lower the number the better.

The number of deaths did decrease. The deaths of 422 corona patients have been recorded in the past seven days, up from 479 in the week before and 565 a week earlier.

The number of hospital admissions has also fallen. In the past seven days, 1291 corona patients were placed in a nursing ward and 193 in an intensive care unit. A week earlier these were 1496 and 224 respectively. The figures in hospitals are also positive today. After two days of slight increases, the number of patients decreased from 1968 to 1925. The IC contains 526 corona patients.

Children

The number of corona cases among children is increasing. The number of infections is increasing, especially among 13 to 17 year olds, but a growth in the number of infections can also be seen among children up to 12 years old. The number of cases is actually falling among adults in each group.

For every 100,000 children aged 13 to 17 years old, about 370 corona cases were diagnosed last week. The week before that was 288 per 100,000 and a week earlier it was 286.

The Outbreak Management Team (OMT) advised Tuesday to investigate whether the Christmas holiday can be extended by one week, in order to reduce infections among young people.

On Tuesday, the RIVM reported lower daily figures. For the first time since October 4, less than 4000 new corona cases have been registered in 24 hours.
