The new, stricter corona measures that the cabinet announced last Monday has also led to new deliberations at Noordeinde Palace about the intended activities of the royal couple. The queen followed the advice to work from home and sat down behind her iPad to conduct conversations via Zoom from her office in Huis ten Bosch.

On Tuesday, a different option was chosen for the opening of the anniversary celebration of the Natural History Museum Naturalis. The museum quickly withdrew numerous invitations, so that the number of guests was limited to a maximum of thirty and King Willem-Alexander could still come ‘safely’. The media was also restricted.

Willem-Alexander said he hoped to be able to start his activities reasonably ‘normally’ again in September before the summer holidays. This has also been reasonably successful in the past month, with even a successful regional visit to Friesland. But the huge increase in the number of corona infections has put an end to the ‘temporary normal’ of the past weeks.
