LIVE | Curaçao will start vaccinating in February | Abroad

Curaçao will start vaccinating part of the population against Covid-19 in the second or third week of February. Initially, people over 60, healthcare workers and adults with a chronic disease will be vaccinated. The island starts with the Pfizer vaccination, which is sent to the island by the Netherlands. Other vaccines will follow in the future.

Special freezers arrived in Curaçao this week to store the vaccines. Minister of Health Zita Jesus-Leito announced this on Tuesday. Many people on the island are unsure about possible side effects of the vaccine. In the coming weeks, the government will try to allay the concerns with an information campaign.

During a special press conference on Tuesday it was emphasized that everyone can decide for themselves whether or not to be vaccinated. However, the government does hope that as many people as possible will get vaccinated to get the pandemic under control.
