THE HIGH COUNCIL FOR CLIMATE CAUTION
The High Council for Climate, an independent body created by President Emmanuel Macron, has prepared a special report on the crisis and its consequences, with 18 recommendations. In its publication Tuesday, the HCC targets the automotive sector, where all aid should be part of a conversion to “clean” vehicles, electric or hydrogen, and be accompanied by a strengthening of anti-pollution standards.
He also warns against the desire to “rebuild as before, at all costs, certain sectors such as the air, very polluting”, when the government is preparing to massively support Air France. Conversely, the HCC advocates “soft” transport – walking, cycling -, teleworking, “more resilient infrastructure”, questioning “massive underinvestment in the maintenance of the rail network”. It is also necessary to “energize the energy renovation of buildings”, which creates jobs, or “preserve and increase terrestrial and coastal ecosystems” to store carbon.
