On March 6, the Guatemalan satellite Quetzal-1 was transferred to the International Space Station (ISS) using the Dragon capsule of the Falcon 9 rocket. Today, after more than six years of work by students, professors and teachers of the Universidad del Valle de Guatemala (UVG), will be put into orbit so that it begins to send information to the antenna installed at the UVG.

During this time, the satellite was stored in the J-SSOD artifact of the Kibo module of the Japanese Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA). For its release into space, the J-SSOD will be installed on the experimental platform that is placed on the sliding table of the Kibo airlock, this room allows objects to pass between places at different pressure.

The artifact and platform are then transferred outside and Kibo’s robotic arm will take them to the release point. After half an hour in space, Quetzal-1 will deploy its antennas and start sending signal.
