Litovel can plant a vineyard, it has managed to break the EU barrier

For the second time, the municipal authority obtained the approval of ÚKZÚZ, which maintains the Register of Vineyards and decides on the right to grow vines.

Litovel succeeded in what experts did not hope for, namely to break the barrier in the form of a European regulation that allows the area of ​​vineyards to be expanded by one percent of new plantings. The EU does not allow more.

Planting? More like in two years

However, the deputy mayor points out that consent to the planting of up to three hectares of vines is one thing.

“Now we are dealing with B, and who will establish the vineyard and take care of it, which will not be easy at all in the first years. We are already negotiating with experts, “he added.

The Haňovičtí farms are working on the land under the lease, and the city’s representatives are already negotiating with the agricultural cooperative about their release.

“If we get experts in the coming months to take care of the vineyard, planting is a matter of next year at the earliest, but rather the next,” said Lubomír Broza.

In addition, the agreement on the renewal of the Na Vinici vineyard came at a time when the coronavirus crisis hit the tax revenues of municipalities and cities. According to preliminary estimates, only planting could cost around three million crowns.

“We will strive for subsidies, the possibilities are there, but if we fail, I do not know whether the deputies would be inclined at this time to release the necessary amount from the city budget. We’ll see, “the deputy mayor pointed out.

He will submit this point to the council at the earliest when it will be clear to whom the city will entrust the establishment of the vineyard and its administration and what exactly the possibilities of supporting the project from state money or other sources look like.

They negotiate with winemakers from Přerov and the south

Representatives of the Litovel town hall have already negotiated with experienced winemakers from Přerov-Předmostí.

“We have convened a meeting with winemakers from South Moravia. We gather information and gradually look for a way to ensure the best possible operation, “he concluded.

In the future, the vine should grow on a slope in the hill Rampach nad Myslechovicemi, a local part of Litovle.

On sloping land, it would act as protection against water erosion and would also act as a drought measure.

The vineyard would also contribute to the greater diversity of the Litovel region.
