Illegal migrants will be expelled from Lithuania

More than 4 thousand migrants have illegally crossed the Lithuanian-Belarusian border this year. This is almost 50 times more than in the entire 2020.

The Lithuanian authorities deported the first illegal migrant from Belarus. A citizen of Cameroon has been expelled to his country of residence, reported Ministry of Internal Affairs of Lithuania on Tuesday, August 3.

“The decision to expel a citizen of the Republic of Cameroon to his country of origin came into force on Monday. He has already left Lithuania,” the statement says.

The department assured that in the future decisions will be made on the expulsion of the remaining illegal immigrants to the country of residence.

“Lithuania respects human rights, but illegal migrants will be expelled from the country. We cannot put up with their illegal stay,” said Interior Minister Agne Bilotaite.

According to the ministry, more than 4 thousand migrants have illegally crossed the Lithuanian-Belarusian border this year. This is almost 50 times more than in the entire 2020.

It was also reported today that the Lithuanian border guards returned to Belarus dozens of illegal migrants… The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Lithuania said that they have evidence that “officials of Belarus are taking part in organizing illegal migration.”

And earlier it became known that Belarus sharply increased the number of flights from Iraq against the backdrop of the migration crisis. The timetable of the airport in Minsk indicates that Belarus deliberately brings migrants and sends them to Lithuania.
