The ban on the transit of goods to Kaliningrad through the territory of Lithuania is part of the EU sanctions, and not a decision of Lithuania. This was announced by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Gabrielius Landsbergis before the meeting of EU foreign ministers in Luxembourg, quotes his Lithuanian channel TV3.

According to the minister, the ban on the transit of goods concerns rail transport and is implemented within the framework of the directives of the European Commission. He noted that Russia can publish false information, which is typical of the Russian authorities.
According to Deutsche Welle, up to 50% of cargo delivered to the Kaliningrad exclave, including construction materials and metals, fell under the EU ban on rail transit.
The Russian Federation Council has already begun to threaten Lithuania, saying that if “the EU does not immediately correct the situation, then the Russian Federation will have a free hand to resolve the issue by any means.” Also, representatives of the Russian authorities call the actions of Lithuania “a complete blockade of Kaliningrad.”
