“The ministers agreed that both countries made a clear commitment not to buy electricity from Belarus, and agreed that any nuclear power plant, including the Ostrovets nuclear power plant (NPP), must meet all safety standards,” the statement says. message.

To fulfill this obligation, Latvia has improved its legal framework, which provides for the procedure for monitoring commercial electricity flows in order to prevent Belarusian electricity from entering the Baltic market. For this, national system operators and experts will be invited.

During the meeting, issues of electricity trade with third countries and how this affects energy security and the progress of the synchronization project were also discussed.
