Listeria: Meat product producer calls sausage back
Ilmenauer Wurstwaren GmbH & Co. KG has started a recall of the article “Original Thuringian master sausage with garlic”. According to the company, listeria were found in the sausage. The product was sold in branches of the Kaufland chain.
Ilmenauer Wurstwaren GmbH & Co. KG is recalling the article “Thuringian master sausage with garlic”, 200g, with the batch number 0104005010 and the best before date April 8th, 2020 due to a possible health hazard. According to the meat producer, listeria was found in a pack.
Sold at Kaufland
As the Federal Office for Consumer Protection and Food Safety (BVL) reports on its portal “lebensmittelwarnung.de”, the batch of the affected product was delivered completely to the Meineweh warehouse of Kaufland.
According to the company’s consumer information, the article was only sold in branches of the Kaufland chain in the states of Saxony-Anhalt, Saxony and Thuringia.
Customers who have bought the product can return it to retailers for a refund of the purchase price.
“We strongly advise against consuming the products from the specified product batch”, writes the meat product producer.

Listeria are bacteria that can cause the disease “listeriosis”.
In healthy adults, the infection is usually unremarkable or takes a harmless course with flu-like symptoms such as fever and muscle pain or vomiting and diarrhea, explains the Bavarian State Office for Health and Food Safety (LGL).
In certain risk groups such as immunocompromised or elderly people and children, severe, sometimes fatal forms of listeriosis sometimes occur.
“People who develop severe or persistent symptoms and have eaten this food should seek medical help and point out a possible Listeria infection,” said Ilmenauer Wurstwaren GmbH & Co. KG. (ad)
