Listed rectory was in flames – Lower Austria

A fire broke out in the Prigglitz rectory in the early morning. The family in the building was able to save themselves by jumping out of the window.

A fire broke out in the parsonage in Prigglitz near Gloggnitz (Neunkirchen district) around 5 am: The neighbors reported the fire when meters high flames already struck the roof of the building in the sky. Only after the alarm was raised did a family of four make themselves known, who were still in the burning rectory. The bold leap from a window on the first floor enabled parents and children to get to safety. They remained unharmed, but suffered a shock.

Blazing fire

The rectory, a building from the 13th century, was already in full fire when the emergency services arrived. Therefore, the main effort was made to protect the church next to the rectory. The three-aisled sacred building, which is dedicated to St. Nicholas, could be saved from the enormous heat and the violent sparking.

After about an hour, the 110 Florianis in action managed to control the flames. The damage to property is likely to be enormous. The cause of the fire is still unknown, now the police are investigating.
