Liquid Hair: This new trend promises shiny hair

It’s a trend that is constantly evolving. In 2018 the hairstyle called “GlassHair” could already be seen everywhere. Kylie Jenner, Jennifer Lopez, Hailey Bieber .. Many stars and starlets have flaunted this short, sleek and silky bob. Volumeless, almost geometric, this haircut was characterized by its glossy effect.

A trend through the ages

A few years later, Kim Kardashian – but above all her hairdresser Chris Appleton – made the technique of “hair lamination” popular. The idea? The hair fiber is treated with keratin to make the hair shine and provide it with intensive moisture.

This year the technique has been reinvented and becomes “Liquid Hair”. While the goal of getting shiny hair fast remains the same, the result is different. In contrast to “Glass Hair”, “Liquid Hair” is more flexible and much less stiff. A glamorous treatment that suits us day and night.

How do you get “Liquid Hair”?

In order to get a perfect “liquid hair”, it is advisable to visit the hairdresser of trust. As with hair lamination, the barber performs a keratin treatment to make the hair shine. But it is also possible to implement the trend at home.

The trick? A detangling shampoo that straightening iron makes it easier to use, an ultra-nourishing conditioner and mask to shape the hair and a thermal protection spray to protect the hair. Then you straighten your mane and use a setting spray (or hairspray). A dash of apple cider vinegar will bring your hair the perfect shine. Voilà!

What are the downsides?

But be careful: Treatment with keratin can also cause hair damage, such as hair loss. This can especially happen if you’ve colored your mane before the treatment. And fine hair can be damaged by the heating products. This can burn your hair too.

There is also a risk of toxins being released during treatment with keratin. Because this contains formaldehyde, which can be released into the air. It can be very irritating to the skin and mucous membranes and can trigger allergies.
