Superstar Lionel Messi (34) apparently receives a lower salary at Paris Saint-Germain than previously reported. The Argentine should share the status of top earner at PSG with teammate Neymar – at least for the time being.
After Messi’s free transfer from FC Barcelona to Paris, there was talk of an annual salary of around 40 million euros net. A clear minus compared to his last years at Barca, where “La Pulga” is said to have raked in around 75 million euros a year. Apparently, his new salary is a little lower than expected.
At least that’s what the French media report, including The team: Messi is said to receive 30 million euros net in the current season. This would put him on a par with Neymar (29), who extended his contract in the spring to 2025.
No hand money for Messi on PSG switch?
However, Messi should be able to outstrip his Brazilian friend from Barca days again in the coming season: If he pulls his option and extends the current contract, which runs until 2023, for another year, he would receive a “loyalty bonus” of ten from 2022 Million euros annually. That makes a total of 110 million euros net for three years at PSG.
It is also said that Messi should not have received any hand money when he moved to the Seine. And: One million of his annual salary is not paid out in euros, but in the club’s crypto currency, the “PSG Fan Token”.
So far, Messi has played two competitive games for his new club. However, he is still waiting for his first goal. On Sunday evening (8.45 p.m.) PSG will face Olympique Lyon in the league at home.
