Rapper Lil Durk attempted to damage an Apple Watch discovered in his possession while incarcerated, according to a recent court filing. The incident, which occurred in August, has prompted prosecutors to request an anonymous jury for his upcoming murder-for-hire trial, citing concerns over potential witness tampering.
Durk, whose real name is Banks, is awaiting trial on charges of conspiring to murder fellow rapper Quando Rondo in 2022. The prosecution’s motion details that Bureau of Prisons (BOP) officials seized a cellular-capable Apple Watch from Durk in late August. Following its discovery, Durk allegedly “obstructed the investigation attempting to damage and/or destroy the communications device.” this is not the first time Durk has faced scrutiny for alleged communication violations while detained; in December 2023, authorities accused him of making unauthorized three-way calls from the Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC) in Los Angeles.
The current case stems from allegations that Durk hired five Chicago men to travel to california and retaliate against Quando Rondo for the 2020 death of King Von,who was killed in a shooting linked to an associate of Rondo’s. During the alleged attempt on Rondo’s life, Saviay’a Robinson, Rondo’s cousin, was fatally shot.
Durk’s trial is currently scheduled to begin on January 6, 2026. A request for comment from Lil Durk’s attorney has been made.
