NASA has reported that a building-sized asteroid will approach Earth this Wednesday, August 5. It is the 2009 PQ1 asteroid, which measures around 107 meters in diameter and passes 4.1 million kilometers away.
However, this will not be the only celestial body that will approach our planet. A few days later, on August 8, the passage of the 2020 OL4 asteroid, with a diameter of 37 meters, is foreseen at a distance of 3.6 million kilometers.
According to the space agency’s Asteroid Watch report, this month the arrival of two more objects is expected, compared to the size of a house and a car: asteroid 2020 FA1, 19 meters, and asteroid 2016AH164, 3, 9 meters, which will fly between seven and six million kilometers from Earth, respectively.
Meanwhile, on September 1, the asteroid 2011 ES4, 28 meters in diameter, comparable to the size of an airplane, will pass. This object will be the closest of all, with an approximation of 121,000 kilometers, that is, one third of the distance between Earth and the Moon.
It should be noted that the average distance between our planet and its natural satellite is approximately 385,000 kilometers. Scientists point out that none of the objects pose a danger to humanity and, despite their close proximity, they are considered unlikely to impact the orbit of artificial satellites.
