LIGUE 1, PSG | Wijnaldum saved PSG from losing in overtime

Overtime scoring ensured PSG points away against Lens.

LENS – PARIS SAINT-GERMAIN 1-1:

62 minutes into the game, the scorer was Lens.

Lionel Messi was left on the ground with an injury after a duel, and several of the PSG players stopped in the hope that referee Francois Letexier would blow for a free kick. However, he did not.

Seko Fofana received the ball and fired from long range. PSG goalkeeper Keylor Navas seemed to have control, but stumbled out in a clumsy way.

– Terrible goalkeeper game, was Direktesport commentator Robin Haugen’s verdict on Navas’ intervention.

Good opportunities for both teams

With Neymar out with injury and Kylian Mbappé benched from the start, it was Lionel Messi who came to the match’s first big opportunity after 18 minutes. The Argentine led the ball forward and pulled inwards from the right, before firing towards the nearest corner. Unfortunately for PSG, the end went in the post.

Lens were also dangerous up front in the first half and at times pushed PSG far back in the field. Cheick Doucouré was close when he got a good hit on a finish outside the penalty area, but Navas stood steady in the PSG cage.

The biggest opportunity of the first half, however, came a minute of overtime. Achraf Hakimi found Angel Di Maria all alone in the back, but in an incredible way, the 33-year-old could not outsmart Jean-Louis Leca in the Lens cage.

Wijnaldum saves points

After the break, it was Lens who got the first good opportunity by Arnaud Kalimuendo. A clearance landed with the PSG-loaned striker who stood all alone at 14 meters. However, the shot went wide.

Shortly after the hour was played, Lens took the lead. Messi was left down after a duel, but the referee let the game go. From a long distance, Fofana fired a shot that Navas initially seemed to have control over. The Costa Ricans, however, failed to fend off.

After the goal, Lens continued to press, and David Costa was about to double immediately with a finish that went in the post.

In the final minutes, PSG chased the goal, and two minutes into overtime, Wijnaldum appeared in the field on the post from Kylian Mbappé and headed in the score that provided one point for each of the teams.
