On September 19, the Latvian National Opera (LNO) will host the anniversary performance of the outstanding baritone Samson Izjumov – Giuseppe Verdi’s “Nabucco”, the title will be a jubilee, and the internationally acclaimed soloist Liene Kinča will make her debut as Abigail, Mārtiņš Ozoliņš will be at the conductor’s stand in the show.
Soloists Guntars Ruņģis (Ismails), Romans Polisadovs (Zakarija), Laura Grecka (Fenēna), Olegs Orlovs (Abdallo), Rihards Mačanovskis (High Priest of Baal) will take part in the performance. Laura Teivāne will sing Anna’s role for the first time. The same line-up will be sung at the opera “Nabucco” on September 25.
Baritone Samson Izjumov has been a soloist at the Latvian National Opera since 1978. His extensive repertoire includes major baritone roles such as Nabucco, Rigoleto, Macbeth, Scarpia, Eugene Onegin, Tomsk, Charlotte, Amonasro, Poza, Renato or Count Ankarström, Georges Germons, Boris Izmailov, Aleko, Demon and others, Verdi, Forre in Requiem, Brahms in German Requiem, Orph in Carmina Burana. Samson Izjumov is a laureate of the Grand Music Prize (1996) for the role of Skarpia in Giacomo Puccini’s opera “Tosca”, the title role in Giuseppe Verdi’s opera “Nabucco” and outstanding performance in previous roles (Rigoleto, Georges Germon), as well as the “Aldara” International Award of the Year laureate (1997). In 2010, Samson Izjumov was awarded the Order of the Three Stars. He has received the “Latvian Gas” Opera of the Year Award 2015 for his lifetime work in the artistic field of the LNO.
The dramatic soprano Liene Kinča is one of the most internationally known Latvian opera singers. She has performed in a number of roles at the Flemish Opera in Antwerp and Ghent, at the Teatro la Fenice in Venice, in Berne, at the Theater an der Wien, in Leipzig, Tokyo and Hanover. The singer’s repertoire includes such roles as Elizabeth in the opera “Tanheizers”, Elsa in the opera “Loengrin”, Sieglinde in the opera “Valkyrie”, title roles in the operas “Tosca” and “Aida” and others.
The production of the opera “Nabucco” belongs to the LNO Gold Fund, it has been in the repertoire since 1996. The production has been created by director Guntis Gailītis, set designer Andris Freibergs, costume designer Kristīne Pasternaka and lighting artist Ēriks Otto.
