LG shows a phone with a sliding screen

LG left a few seconds see a phone with a screen that extends out of the case until the device is the size of a small tablet. It is still a prototype of this LG Rollable smartphone. The South Korean manufacturer has not yet told when the LG Rollable will be on the market.

Alternative to folding telephones

The LG Rollable is a reaction to the phones with folding screens that Samsung, Motorola and Huawei, among others, introduced earlier. That folding telephones also offer larger screens when unfolded, but have a vulnerable fold in the screen as a disadvantage. The LG Rollable doesn’t seem to have a crease.

LG did not say exactly how the slide-out mechanism works. LG already has one last year rollable TV brought on the market.

Oppo and TCL are working on something similar

LG is not the only phone manufacturer that works on devices with sliding screens. Also the Chinese brands Oppo in TCL already showed prototypes of such ‘slide-out telephones’ last year, of which it is also unknown when they will be on the market.
