LG came up with a smartphone book with a flexible sliding display

The United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) has granted LG Electronics a patent for a very curious smartphone equipped with a flexible display.

A document called “Mobile terminal” describes a device in a book form factor, in which the screen wraps the case from the outside.

As can be seen in the illustrations, when folded, the display completely covers the front and one of the sides, as well as most of the back panel.

At the same time, the vertical region in which the camera with the flash, the fingerprint scanner, and some other elements and sensors remain accessible behind.

When the smartphone is deployed, the flexible display not only straightens, but also moves slightly to the side, covering the back area with the camera and sensors. So the user gets at his disposal a mini-tablet, in which the screen covers the entire front surface of the case.

The smartphone can be opened at a certain angle to view multimedia materials. In this case, player controls may be displayed on the side.

Alas, while an unusual apparatus exists only in patent documentation. Whether LG plans to launch it in the commercial market is unknown.
