LFF presidential election: what do former presidents Indrikson and Gorkš think?

If there are no unexpected turning points in Latvian football again, then on Friday, July 3, Latvian Football Federation (LFF) will have its third president in the 21st century – the family of footballs will be led by the Minister of the Interior Sandis Ģirģens or an indoor football life activist Vadim Lashenko.

For the last eight months, there has been a relative silence in Latvian football – members will have found it from regular meetings organized by the opposition of the previous president Kaspars Gorkšs. We remind you that last year five (!!!) LFF congresses took place in a few months, which is probably the record of Latvian sports federations. Maybe even the world.

Following the overthrow of Gorky in October 2019, it was decided that a new president would not be elected until the officially scheduled elections in late April 2020. However, the Covid-19 pandemic also made adjustments to this plan, having to postpone the date to an unknown time until July 3 was set as the election time. The pre-election process was usually accompanied by “fun” – a tangle of documents related to applications, various intrigues, groupings and regular recorded conversations.

Before Friday’s election, we are offering readers the views of two previous presidents. The long-term head of the football family, the Honorary President of LFF, expressed his vision for the ongoing football portal “Delfi” Guntis Indriksons a Kaspars Gorkšs, who managed to heat LFF ‘s first – person chair for only a year and a half, until the “11 wolves” leader was shown a “wolf passport”.
