Lex Nelissen passed away at the age of 72 | 1Limburg

Lex Nelissen passed away on Saturday. His son Rik reports this on Facebook.

Nelissen, known as the night mayor of Heerlen, was a cultural centipede. He was owner of Theater Lexor and director of Cultuurhuis Heerlen. In this way he helped various Limburg artists to establish a network and gain stage experience.

He also ran a record label and was active as a DJ, presenter, theater maker and singer. Songs like ‘Tuin der Lusten’ and ‘Kus mich nog eine kieër’ are among his biggest hits.

Pizzeria owner
In a more distant past, Nelissen was, among other things, a discotheque and pizzeria owner and coffee importer. Lex Nelissen has been struggling with his health in recent years. He was 72 years old.

12 pills
L1 reporter Ruud Kleinen was working on a documentary about Nelissen. He reacts shocked: “Lex always told with pretended pride that he took ’12 pills a day’ to stay upright. Apparently those pills were no longer enough. During the recording of the documentary we noticed how important Lex was for artists in particular in the region. He was a man who could admire with a critical eye. We do not yet know how the film should progress at the moment and that is also not important. I think that Lex’s loved ones should first be able to say goodbye in peace to take.”
