There are quite a number of individual awards given out for the fact that professional footballers like to talk about putting themselves solely at the “service of the team”. The Ballon d’Or, for example, which the French trade newspaper “France Football” awards and which used to be awarded to the best footballer in Europe and later to the world footballer.
These two prizes have long been awarded at their own ceremonies by the European Football Union (Uefa) and the world association (Fifa). There are also a number of other awards from several countries – with decreasing radiance.
Lewandwoski, Messi or Salah – who will be FIFA world footballer?
This Monday it’s Fifa’s turn again – and the most important football prize in terms of name could go to the Bundesliga again. Defending champion Robert Lewandowski from FC Bayern, along with Lionel Messi (Paris Saint-Germain) and Mohamed Salah (Liverpool FC), is one of the finalists chosen by players, coaches, journalists and fans.
When the Golden Ball was awarded at the end of November, the Bayern striker lost out to Messi, who had led Argentina to their first Copa America triumph in 28 years in the summer.

“He has the blessing of us players that he wins,” said Bayern goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, who has been nominated for the world goalkeeper election. Munich coach Julian Nagelsmann said of Lewandowski: “Hopefully he wins the title he deserves.” Among the goalkeepers, national player Ann-Kathrin Berger could be awarded during the online event.
Tuchel with chances for world coach of the year
It is difficult to predict football prices, or it is now more difficult. In the 2010s, Messi and his longtime rival Cristiano Ronaldo were pretty much seeded in every possible election, with very few exceptions.
There was no way around Lewandowski last year after Bayern’s triple triumph. In the 2020/21 season, Munich won the championship, with Lewandowski improving on Gerd Müller’s age-old goal record. Chelsea won the title in the Champions League, and their German coach Thomas Tuchel is hoping for the coaching prize.
Spain’s Jennifer Hermoso and FC Barcelona’s Alexia Putellas and Chelsea’s Australian Sam Kerr made it into the women’s finals.
