Thanks to another record by Kai Havertz, Bayer 04 Leverkusen has returned to the course of success in the race for the Champions League spots in the German Bundesliga. With his fifth goal since the restart, the national team ensured the Werkself’s tedious 1-0 (0-0) success at SC Freiburg in the 54th minute on Friday evening.
Havertz was the first player under the age of 21 to hit 35 Bundesliga goals. At the start of the 29th round, the Leverkusen team, in which captain Julian Baumgartlinger and Aleksandar Dragovic played through, initially moved up to third place in the table. Freiburg with defender Philipp Lienhart, on the other hand, remained victorious in the fourth game after the Corona restart and remain in the upper midfield of the league.
The talented Bayer offensive was extremely difficult to find a gap against the disciplined defending Freiburg. The 20-year-old Havertz and the 17-year-old Florian Wirtz, who had just moved into the first formation, were initially unable to get through. Barely ten minutes after the restart, however, Havertz proved his class, after a one-two with Leon Bailey in the sixteen he defeated SC goalkeeper Alexander Schwolow from a very high angle. Shortly thereafter, he had to leave the field slightly chipped.
