Letters and other Beatles memorabilia up for auction in May | NOW

Letters and other memorabilia from The Beatles from their time in Hamburg will go under the hammer at Bonhams auction house on May 5 in London, reports The Guardian Sunday. Target prices for the items to be auctioned are not yet known.

The Beatles played more than 250 shows in the German port city between August 1960 and December 1962 before their big break.

Some of the letters are addressed to photographer Astrid Kirchherr (1938-2020). She was engaged to the former Beatle Stuart Sutcliffe, whom she had met in Germany. For example, John Lennon wrote to her that his first wife Cynthia was pregnant with their first child, Julian. Photos, work permits, drawings and poems from that time will also be auctioned.

When The Beatles went on tour to Hamburg, they were not very well known. Their big breakthrough came afterwards, also knows auctioneer Katherine Schofield. “You can say that they came to Germany as boys and left as men.”

Beatles items are regularly auctioned. In April 2020 released a handwritten lyrics for the song Hey Jude at auction yet 830.000 euro on.
