Peace groups plan actions against war and rearmament
For November 19, 2022, anti-war groups are calling for decentralized protests against the war in Ukraine and the strengthening of the armed forces: actions are planned in numerous cities from Hamburg to Munich and from Bonn to Berlin.
Almost nine months ago, Russian troops invaded Ukraine. The Russian attack left tens of thousands dead, hundreds of thousands injured and millions displaced – the suffering of the population continues unabated, with the military conflict starting in 2014.
The war of aggression in Ukraine has also set in motion massive rearmament: only the Bundeswehr needs to be boosted with new fighters, tanks and other weapons with a so-called “special fund” of 100 billion euros, and the budget for armaments is to increase enormously in the long term. And all this in times of the still rampant corona pandemic, progressive climate change and the economic crisis that is driving more and more people into poverty.
Actions in over 20 cities
On the other hand, an alliance of a dozen pacifist and anti-militarist organizations was formed and by November 19, 2022 under the motto “Stop the killings in Ukraine! – Updating is not the solution” he called for action.
Campaigns are planned in nearly twenty cities. In Berlin, for example, activists will set an example for sea rescue instead of rearmament with the slogan “Rescue instead of arming”, followed by action against the Russian invasion of Ukraine in front of the Russian embassy.
