RESULTS Research published in the Journal of Medical Virology says that oral antiseptics and mouthwash have the ability to deactivate the coronavirus.
The researchers also found that some nasal and mouth cleansers have a strong ability to neutralize the coronavirus in humans. This suggests that these products have the potential to reduce the number of viruses that are spread by people who are Covid-19 positive.
In the study, the outer envelope of the tested human coronavirus and SARS-CoV-2 were genetically similar so that the research team hypothesized that the same amount of SARS-CoV-2 might be deactivated upon exposure to the solution.
“The results with mouthwash are promising, and add to the research findings that show that certain types of mouthwash can inactivate SARS-CoV-2 under similar experimental conditions,” the study wrote.
In addition, 1 percent of the baby shampoo solution is said to be able to inactivate more than 99.9 percent of the human coronavirus after two minutes of contact time. Some mouthwash products are also effective in deactivating infectious viruses.
