Less than a month after its reveal, could the covers of the next Xbox Series X games change?

We are already in August and the race for the next-gen has been raging since the end of 2019 and the reveal of the Xbox Series X from Microsoft at the Game Awards. Since then, Sony and Microsoft have been competing through interposed announcements. Beginning of July, Sony officially unveils the covers for future PlayStation 5 games. Covers broadly similar to the PS4 covers.

Two days later, during Ubisoft Forwards, it was Microsoft who officially unveiled the covers of future Xbox Series X games. We discovered covers even more similar than the Xbox One boxes with a huge logo “Optimized for Series X »Present on all the boxes and which, we will not lie to each other, spoiled the covers.

It seems that Microsoft has taken into account the fairly negative feedback around the next covers and the firm is making a little step back which is welcome.

New covers… Not definitive

If Microsoft’s communication has been perfect for many months, the Redmond firm seems in slight difficulty since May and the announcement of the first games. Despite a very good Inside Xbox, many gamers were disappointed with the first “next-gen” games in May.

As for the july conference, Halo Infinite, which has been placed as the flagship port of the Xbox Series X by Microsoft for many months, was a huge disappointment. For the rest of the conference, the games also chilled a lot of players with a huge lack of gameplay and major exclusives.

Finally, concerning the cover of future games, many found the huge “Optimized for Series X” logo too big, spoiling the look of these covers. It looks like Microsoft has heard the negative reviews to roll back the clock.

Jaquettes Xbox Series X

The huge logo “Optimized for Series X” disappears to free up a lot of space on the jacket. But this new cover will not be final either! Indeed, according to Tom Warren, journalist on the site The Verge, Microsoft should soon offer a new “final” version of the Xbox Series X cover with a new “Optimized for Series X” badge, but much smaller on the back of the dust jacket this time.

For its part, Microsoft has not yet officially communicated on the subject and the firm will undoubtedly do so once the new final design has been found.
