Idukki: A five-member gang was arrested for killing and eating a leopard in Mankulam. They caught a six-year-old leopard by trapping it on a farm near the forest. Munipara Vinod, VP Kuriakose, CS Binu, Sally Kunhappan and Vadakkum Chalil Vincent from Mankulam were arrested in the case.
They were apprehended during a search conducted by the forest department on the basis of confidential information. The leopard caught on Wednesday was skinned and butchered yesterday. About ten kilograms of meat was being cooked. The skin, teeth and nails were stripped for sale. The Forest Department also found the remains of a leopard.
The leopard skin and curry made from leopard meat were seized from the house of Vinod, the first accused in the case. The trap was set on the farm using iron cable. The accused were produced in Devikulam court and remanded.
