Will there be the next Corona summit of the country leaders with Chancellor Angela Merkel at the weekend? According to Social Senator Melanie Leonhard (SPD), Hamburg would adhere to nationwide resolutions. The Senate will decide Tuesday.
“So far we have had a stable, in some cases declining development, but we are noticing: Unfortunately, with the discipline, the decline in numbers also subsides,” said Leonhard in an interview with NDR Info. She indicated that if the corona measures were tightened, Hamburg would go along with them before Christmas if they were decided at a federal-state summit. “We wouldn’t do it any differently in Hamburg. It would be inconceivable that shops are closed in Lower Saxony and open in Hamburg.”

Hamburg’s second mayor Katharina Fegebank (Greens) said on Friday in an interview with NDR 90.3 that she assumed that there would also be tightened measures in Hamburg. Science did given clear recommendations – and so far they have also oriented themselves towards science, Fegebank had already explained in the Hamburg Journal on Wednesday.
“We definitely have to do something now”
A relaxation of the corona rules over the turn of the year, as it was originally planned, is unlikely due to the increasing number of infections. The Senate is in the process of discussing this and decisions will be made in the next few days. “We have not achieved a trend reversal through this slight lockdown,” said Fegebank, saying the high corona numbers are worrying. “We definitely have to do something now.”
Neighboring countries from stricter measures
Has on Friday Schleswig-Holstein has already tightened the corona measures – including the contact restrictions at Christmas and at school. Lower Saxony already received the easing on New Year’s Eve and in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Prime Minister Manuela Schwesig called for a nationwide lockdown.
