Léon Marchand sets fifth fastest time in NCAA history in 400m medley

Olympic finalist this summer in Tokyo, Léon Marchand is already shining at Arizona State University, where he has been training since the start of the school year under the baton of Bob Bowman. At the Wolfpack Invitational on Friday in North Carolina, the young French swimmer (19 years old) clocked a great time over 400 meters medley (3’35”62, five seconds better than his runner-up for the day). It is even the fifth fastest time in the history of the American College Championship (NCAA), less than two seconds behind the record of Chase Kalisz, reigning Olympic champion in the specialty, and the second fastest time in history for a freshman (first-year student).
