Leipzig and Dresden under 50

Dresden (dpa / sn) – The corona virus is spreading more and more slowly in Saxony. The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) reported a seven-day incidence – i.e. the number of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants within seven days – of 68.4 on Tuesday. The day before it was 68.1. The development is stagnating to a certain extent, said Health Minister Petra Köpping (SPD) on Tuesday after the cabinet meeting. A week ago the value was 91.3.

After the city of Leipzig (43.7), the state capital Dresden (47.1) also fell below the important threshold of 50. Chemnitz (50.7) is just above it. Three of the ten districts in the Free State have three-digit incidence: the Leipzig district with 119.7, the Vogtland district with 115.5 and the Saxon Switzerland-Eastern Ore Mountains district with 106.7.

According to the Ministry of Health, the number of proven new corona infections increased within one day by 446 to 188,208. In addition, there were another 57 deaths. The number of people who have died of or with a Covid-19 disease since the beginning of the pandemic is now 7230. On the website of the ministry, the seven-day incidence on Tuesday was given as 69.7.

The incidence value fluctuates because the number of cases electronically recorded on that day is used for the calculation. A few days can also elapse between the reporting of cases by doctors and laboratories to the authorities and their transmission, and there is less testing and reporting on weekends.

According to Köpping, 82 cases of a virus mutation have so far been detected in Saxony. 63 times it is the British variant, in 5 cases the South African. The rest has not yet been clearly determined. The focus of the mutations in Saxony is the Vogtland, where 29 cases occurred. According to Köpping, 190,994 people in the Free State have received a vaccination against the virus so far, 129,439 of them as a primary vaccination.
