What group would not want to lead the
Federal Intelligence Agency
(AFI), la
Anti-Corruption Office
(OA), the
Federal Penitentiary Service
and the
administration of the Judiciary?
Legitimate Justice
It is not a political party, but since
Alberto Fernández
landed at the Casa Rosada
accumulate more power
that many forces that make up the
Everyone’s Front.
After four years of “mistreatment” during macrismo, Justicia Legítima is now experiencing a new (and unexpected) spring.
And not only because of the rain of charges. Surviving macrism also had the prize of
a sustained increase in the number of members,
but also the possibility of opening
new delegations throughout the country
to “break with the judicial corporation” and “democratize Justice”. Too
fueled the dream of landing on the Supreme Court.
The rematch of Legitimate Justice came from the hand of its current president, the former prosecutor
Cristina Caamaño,
To who
Fernández named the head of the AFI.
Her assumption as president of the group, last August, coincided with Kirchner’s fervor after the victory at PASO.
That is where the “demand” began: the consultations of judges, prosecutors, public defenders and legal secretaries from all over the country multiplied to join. Now they add about 500 partners – they trusted from the group -, the majority magistrates.
Before assuming the AFI, Caamano had already traveled to Córdoba, Rosario and had scheduled talks -which were suspended by the coronavirus- in Chaco, Mendoza and Mar del Plata, cities where Legitimate Justice already has delegations. Like almost all Legitimate Justice, Caamano is one of the representatives of the ”
judicial christinism “.
The former prosecutor gained relevance when
Cristina Kirchner
The handling of the telephone interventions yielded her, a management that the vice president still recognizes today.
“I have no doubt that the Judicial Reform promoted by the Government will be in line with the democratization of Justice, the access to Justice of the most vulnerable sectors, the speed of the cases, a plain language of the judges and a system full accusatory, which is how we think from Justice, “says Caamano in dialogue with
THE NATION.
Within Legitimate Justice they beat their chests at the enumeration of the charges accumulated for their partners. “It is a pride that Alberto Fernández coincides with our line of thought,” says another source with national office.
The President endorsed each one in key positions, but within the Government there are sectors that resist progress.
“They are very sectarian” or “they are not smart to raise slogans,” are some of the criticisms he heard
THE NATION
by mouth leaders of the judicial wing of the oficialismo.
Court Candidates
The retired judge
María Laura Garrigós de Rébori,
Founding President of Legitimate Justice, is another member with a position in the Executive. “Malala,” as everyone nicknames her behind the scenes, was designated this month as
head of the Penitentiary Service,
but in the judicial group they assure that she is the “perfect candidate” if Kirchnerism decides to expand the Supreme Court with female quotas.
The chambermaid
Alejandro Slokar
It is also a favorite to reach the highest court, which since the departure of
Eugenio Zaffaroni
it no longer expresses that “line of thought” of the Kirchnerist group.
Another member of the group with charge in the Government is
Félix Crous,
than
directs the OA.
The prosecutor assured during an interview with
THE NATION
that the offer came from the hand of Alberto Fernández himself: they met because they agreed on a C5N program and from that moment they maintained a contact that included more than one conversation at dawn in the Buenos Aires sidewalks. He received the call directly from the then president-elect to take a place of extreme political sensitivity.
The most recent charge for a Legitimate Justice member will take effect this Monday, when
Claudio Cholakian
assume as
administrator of the Judiciary,
one of the most important state budget. Cholakian is also a friend of
Diana Conti,
a benchmark of Kirchnerism in judicial matters, and worked together with
Alberto Lugones,
the current president of the Judicial Council, the body that appointed him there.
Although he remains in Dolores, the judge
Alejo Ramos Padilla,
Another member of Legitimate Justice, is a candidate to take even more prominence on the judicial stage, even though the media still instructs
D’Alessio case.
Ramos Padilla dreams of landing on the
federal court of La Plata, the judicial office that organizes the Buenos Aires elections.
It was first in the order of merit of the contest and is within the shortlist.
But in the Casa Rosada they want to give it even more prominence: they prefer that it occupy one of the vacant places in the
Buenos Aires Federal Chamber.
It is a key place within
Comodoro Py,
with even more exposure than La Plata, because it has
the review of the most sensitive cases that go through that jurisdiction.
With either of the two plans, Kirchnerism projects this legitimate justice partner as one of its judicial swords for the next few years.
