Legendary musician Ustad Ghulam Mustafa Khan has passed away

HiNhustani music legend Ghulam Mustafa Khan has passed away. He was 89 years old. He was undergoing treatment for a congenital disease. He died at his residence in Mumbai at 12.37 pm today. The death was reported by his daughter-in-law Namrata Gupta Khan. Namrata said his death was unexpected.

Many in the music world have expressed their condolences on his death. Lata Mangeshkar said that he was not only a good singer but also a good man. She said that my cousin and I learned the song from Mustafa Khan.

Ustad Ghulam Mustafa Khan was born on March 3, 1931, the grandson of Ustad Inayat Hussain Khan. He has worked as a singer and music director in the Hindi film world. He also sang for many Marathi and Gujarati films at Mrinalsen’s Bhuvanshom. He was the coach of many talents in the world of Hindi film music.

Mustafa Khan’s father taught him music from an early age. After that, Mustafa Khan was taught music by Ustad Fida Hussain Khan. Ustad Nisar Hussain Khan was the one who memorized the lessons in music. Ghulam Mustafa Khan, who was molded by the family’s musicians in this way, made his debut at the age of eight. He has performed in many classical concerts in India and abroad. Parallel to his music career, Ustad Ghulam Mustafa Khan became famous in the field of film music.

He was awarded the Padma Shri in 1991, the Kendra Sangeetha Nataka Academy Award in 2003, the Padma Bhushan in 2006 and the Padma Vibhushan in 2018.
