Leganes It was one of the cities in Spain hardest hit by the coronavirus, which forced a field hospital to be set up very early in the Carlos Sastre Sports Center in the city, near the then collapsed Severo Ochoa Hospital. Now that the situation has improved, although the threat of the virus has not disappeared, the City Council has decided to pay tribute to those who attended all the affected neighbors without receiving anything in return.
A plaque on the doors of the sports complex commemorates the work of the volunteers of Civil protection, “Pride of the city” according to the mayor Santiago Llorente, which has indicated that “they could have decided not to overturn as they did”, but also pays homage to Doctors without borders, to whom the Ministry of Health asked for help but who also “could have said that they were already overwhelmed”, despite which “they came immediately.”
Llorente has concluded stating that the help of both groups in the city has been “essential“To face the pandemic and thanked them for their work”elbow to elbow”With the municipal authorities to stop and treat the infections.
Never forget: with a #SeveroOchoa collapsed we raised our field hospital with the best we had and when it was most difficult there were those who did not hesitate. Eternal thanks to Civil Protection #Leganes Y @MSF_Espana. Today we have placed this plaque on the Carlos Sastre. pic.twitter.com/FUzBKGy6SD
